November 25th

Oh big day today, not so much here but in Brisbane, well apart from the fact that it is the first day of the first test of course, all our furniture and belongings is now on its way down South. I think Brian was much relieved to have that all finished poor thing.

I must remember to tell the builders it's on its way now. Not much time left and still so much to do.

The weather has turned wet and cooler over the last couple of days so I have not been able to get too much done in the garden. Luckily the builders have lots to do inside to prepare for the tiler who should be in next week. I hope once the tiler is in the guys can then get on with the cladding outside. We really seem to be taking it right down to the wire but forever the optimist I am sure it will be ok. If we do manage to get in on the 10th we still have another couple of weeks before Nick and Trish arrive and of course Christmas so that hopefully will mean we have time to get a little organised.

Tonight is the big lighting of the Christmas tree down on the shores of the Mersey, if the weather is kind. Then Friday through to Sunday is the Devonport show so lots going on over the next few days.

Will send more in a couple of days

November 22

Well what a lovely weekend Tassie turned on. Blue skies and sunshine all weekend and the same today. I spent most of my weekend in the garden again, much to the delights of the local rabbits! as I discovered this morning. So today I have hunted around to find what wire I can to try and protect what they were clearly to full to fit in last night.

I again cut the paddocks with the ride on, I am sure they didn't really need it but it was great fun, must remember to tell Brian to adjust our retirement budget to include some extra fuel for the mower:)

I didn't spend all my time on Sunday at the house, I did call in to the local market at Don, it was great, lots of handmade stuff, plants, jams, chutneys etc Sunday seems to be the day form Markets around here, I just didn't know which to go to so will check out a different one next week. I also went on a long walk around the coast line in Devonport. The B&B where I am staying is right by the mouth of the Mersey so it is lovely to walk out after tea, and watch the Spirit leave for Melbourne, these long evenings are great (Queensland take note) and I had forgotten how nice it is to go out for walks at night with the sun still not fully below the horizon.

I also have got used to hearing the Spirit as it enters the Mersey mouth about 5.30am every morning, it blows its siren and must wake up the whole of Devonport.

Things are much quieter at the house at the moment, with the painters arriving today, everyone else seems to have moved out to let them have a clear run at the place, however I was able to chat to our lovely plumber about the 'special' grate going in our en suite and the joiner who is doing the kitchen and vanities also called in to take more measurements, from all accounts all is on track which is great news, who knows we may be in on the 10th:)

Haven't had too many comments on the blog but have had some emails about the blog so it is nice to know that people are checking up on me.

Bye for now from Tass.

Friday evening

Well I thought this was going to be a quiet day, but by the time I go to the house the electrician had questions so too the builder.

I had time for about 3 hours in the garden, I am trying to clear the patch where there are some very old raspberry canes, however together with the canes there is also grass that stands about 6ft tall (no exaggeration). It is hard going trying to get the grass out and not disturb the canes, then Brian let me know that I need to cut out the old canes and tie up the new ones, goodness so much to learn. After three house I felt really hot and dirty, weather has been lovely, clear blue skies and I would say about 20 but our North facing garden is a real sun trap. Anyway I didn't think I could go and visit the pregnant cat in that state so after a quick shower I called in. Coco is a miniature of our coco, she is due to have her kittens on about the 16th Dec, so I have put Brian's name down and he can go and pick one, will let you know the result of that.

I called back to the house as it is just down the road and just as well as the fly screen man was there working away, the screens look really good they are roll away screens on the bifolds and french doors as well as the single doors, I'm really pleased, thinking about it I expect coco's kitten will be please as well!!

I have been given strict instructions from the builder to go shopping for door furniture, hinges handles etc. I didn't realise is could be so complicated so I hope there is a nice man at the shop who takes pity on me.

Hope to get to Don Market on Sunday, Don is a little village just the Devonport side of Forth. It is also where you can get the historic train that runs between Don and Penguin. If you know anything about James the red engine and friends Henry Harriet etc you will be able to imagine what they look like.

Ok time for a glass of wine,

Bye for now
OK so I'm not the best at blogging!! But in my defence, getting connected has been a challenge especially on the way down to Melbourne and things have been rather hectic since arriving in Tasmania a week ago. However enough of the excuses to all the news.

Great drive down from Brisbane to Melbourne, took 3 nights and came the Newell Highway. Country looked spectacular, green grass and gold wheat/cereal everywhere. Dams, rivers, creeks all with water, we haven't seen it looking this good for many years.

Melbourne was fun catching up with old friends.

Then on Tuesday night we made our way through Melbourne's traffic and toll roads to the Port, and there she was the shiny red Morgan, Brian's eyes lit up and a big sigh of relief from me. Much to Brian's delight the MG club of Geelong were going on the Spirit as well, there must have been about 20+ MGs of different vintage. Some how they all seem to manage to get on first and the little red morgan was amongst them. I go left at security check as I hadn't realised they needed to see in boot and bonnet and do you think I could find the bonnet lever!! Luckily he was a very nice Security man and took pity on this female driver.

Anyway after a little delay waiting to get on board we got into our cabin, it was lovely big queen bed lovely picture windows en-suite, complimentary champagne in the fridge, toiletries, robes etc etc.

Not being the best of ocean travellers (at least from my experience of crossing the English Channel 50 years ago) I did what my Dad and I always used to do and headed straight for the bar, and a couple of quells. Obviously this potion still does the trick as we ate a good meal and had a great nights sleep.

Before we knew it we were in Devonport pulling up at the dock and off loading by 7.00am. We drove over to the house and settled the Morgan into its new garage, checked around the house and headed for some coffee and breakfast.

Before I get onto the state of the building just to mention we spent 3 days in Ulverstone in a lovely B&B called Boscobels, highly recommend.

The house is really progressing well, we are inpatient but realistically the builders are doing a great job. All plastering is now done and the painters come in on Monday, so fingers crossed we may have somewhere to cook the turkey.

After we arrived we picked up a ride-on-mower and got stuck into the paddocks, never don this before and what fun it was, poor Brian was left whipper-snipping all the difficult stuff as he couldn't get me off the mower. After two full days of work the paddocks looked much better and the new little mower had passed a very hard test, it had cut the long grass really well, I now can't wait for the grass to grow a bit so I can do it all again!

We also started work an getting the garden back into shape, pretty hard work but the soil is lovely and to all my friends at UQ I started first with a vege patch and have planted some of your seeds, the gardening gloves and soap have proved a blessing.

Brian sadly had to return to Bris on Tuesday and since then I have been in charge, of all the decisions together of course with many phone calls back to Bris.

Yesterday was a huge day with the new Envirosystem treatment tank and piping arriving and being installed, I was out at the house at 7.00am to answer many queries, but at the end of the day it all seemed to be ok.

Today it is time to meet the carpet man and for those who know Brian and his love of Burmese I am off to see a brown Burmese coco who is due to have a litter around Christmas, they live just along the river from our new house, is this an omen or what!

So no doubt a busy day again, I feel I have got this up to date so now I will try and post daily, tonight I will let you know how coco is going
